This course builds upon and extends skills learned in algebra and geometry to prepare students for the study of calculus and other higher-level courses in mathematics. Precalculus has many real-world applications in other fields such as science, technology, engineering, and business. Precalculus is used to make mathematical models and calculations such as estimating radioactive decay in chemistry, predicting death and birth rates in biology, and maximizing profit in business. In addition to mastering mathematical skills, students also develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills that can be used to model and solve problems that have relevant applications in their lives. This course requires independent thought and active engagement and inquiry.
