MPL-5010 Organizations and Public Personnel Leadership
This course presents a comprehensive, integrative, and practical focus on leadership and management. It is based upon a framework that analyzes leadership and management at different levels: individual, team, and organizational leadership. The course presents leadership and management theories/concepts. Students will survey contemporary perspectives on ethics, collaborating, coaching, organizational culture, diversity, learning organizations, and strategic leadership. Attention will be given to examining the role that leaders play in identifying and implementing changes in organizations. Key functions such as recruitment, selection, development, appraisal, retention, compensation, discipline, and labor relations are examined. Implications of legal and global environments are appraised, and current personnel matters are analyzed.
