NUR-7600 Psychopharmacology and Neuroscience Foundations Across the Lifespan

This course explores neuroscientific principles, their integration into prescriptive practice, and considerations for the practitioner related to potential adverse events, toxicities, and relevant population-specific factors. The scientific relationships between neuronal transmission, pharmacodynamics, pharmacogenetics, and pharmacokinetics will be conceptualized. Introductory prescriptive practices will be synthesized to achieve understanding of the clinical decision-making skills necessary to accurately identify common psychiatric disorders, target symptoms, and formulate appropriate treatment options. Pertinent interventions will include both psychotropic and alternative treatment interventions across the lifespan. Legal and ethical implications of prescriptive practice as well as the Controlled Substances Act will be critiqued.
