Course Description
A study of the legal aspects of the patient's rights and institutional responsibilities within health care facilities. Attention is focused on jurisdiction of Board of Directors, negligence, malpractice, contracts, permits, authorizations, employer-employee relations and accountability within health care institutions. Course Description
This course explores what women and men need to know about women's bodies and women's health. Personal, family, cultural, community, and societal influences are analyzed for their impact on the physical and emotional health of women. Emphasis on human sexuality is addressed in discussion related to body image and intimacy. Health risk identification, health promotion, health maintenance, and treatment alternatives are examined. Men are encouraged to participate in the course to add perspective and gain a more in-depth understanding of women.

Social Issues in Health & Illness. Designed to provide a critical view of the many social issues in the delivery & utilization of explored from behavioral science, sociological, & managerial perspectives, including the social factors in illness, patient- provider relationships, current problems in health care & the effects of economic changes on health & illness.

The Occupational Safety and Health course provides analysis and solution components for technology leaders to identify potential issues and plan solutions. The content includes roles of the technical leaders in environmental, health, and safety management; quantitative problem solving and units of measure; application of OSHA regulations; and development of solutions specific to the learner's field of Applied Science and Technology.

Course Description
This course focuses on the manager's role in implementing safety and health programs in the workplace in compliance with the applicable standards of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHAct) of 1970. Special emphasis is placed on developing written programs and conducting employee training as required by OSHAct.

Intro. to contemporary systems of delivering medical care. Policies and issues surrounding government involvement in health care. Financing, quality assurance and manpower related to the health care system. Ethical orientation to the allied health professions. Dealing with sick and hospitalized patient and family; the taking of vital signs; introduction to pharmacology; medical terminology; aseptic techniques.

Addresses the application of ethics to various components of the health care delivery system, including health care providers as well as administration in institutions. It discusses codes of ethics & handling of ethical problems.

  • Show an understanding of the basic principles of insurance as they relate to the applications and operation of a variety of personal insurance contracts
  • Evaluate the needs of homeowners and tenants and how the clauses of the insurance contract affect the property rights of each
  • Demonstrate the ability to compare different classifications of auto policies in determining the appropriate clauses to meet individual and family needs
  • Analyze the different forms of life insurance and the appropriate use of different forms of policy for estate planning
  • Analyze appropriateness of various living benefits of insurance policies and how they will combine with government programs available to individuals in retirement
  • Assess and evaluate the health insurance needs of individuals and families when determining policy needs and costs
  • Construct an individual and family health insurance policy that can synthesize with the new Health Care Portability Act and understand the effects of this act on different individuals
  • Appraise collective personal insurance needs and develop a portfolio of insurance that integrates available insurance products to benefit the need of individuals and families
