Course Description
The essentials of personnel management and fundamentals of supervision and leadership as applied to administration. Consideration of supervisory problems with a police/security system. Application of labor relations to effective performance. Topics include discipline, motivation, training, job classification, salary standards, and promotion.

Learning Outcomes
Through the Portfolio Assessment process, students will demonstrate that they can appropriately address the following outcomes:

• Identify the various leadership styles that are utilized in personnel management
• List and discuss the roles and responsibilities of the administrator/supervisor
• Identify problems facing the supervisor, at various levels within the organization
• Discuss the significance of labor relations as it applies to the administrator and the rank and file
• Present sound supervisory strategies that address discipline, motivation and training

Identify job classifications, salary standards and promotional criteria for personnel within the organization.  

Occupational Health and Safety   (APS-400)   3 credits  

Course Description
The Occupational Safety and Health course provides analysis and solution components for technology leaders to identify potential issues and plan solutions. The content includes roles of the technical leaders in environmental, health, and safety management; quantitative problem solving and units of measure; application of OSHA regulations; and development of solutions specific to the learner's field of Applied Science and Technology.

• Identify terminology associated with safety management.
• Outline the ethical considerations and the role of a safety and health manager.
• Analyze standards for occupational health and safety, the environment and regulatory procedure.

• Optimize the usage of tools and techniques in safety management.
• Identify, evaluate, and control hazards.
• Create plans for the development and supervision of hazard control.
• Differentiate safety attitudes, and detection/correction from unsafe working conditions.

 

Administration and Supervision: How to Start a Childcare Facility   (CDS-353)   3 credits  

Course Description
Administration and Supervision: How to Start a Childcare Facility Introduction to administrative responsibilities, types of programs, staff selection, business operation, insurance and requisitions for Child Care Programs.

Learning Outcomes
Through the Portfolio Assessment process, students will demonstrate that they can appropriately address the following outcomes:

• Discuss the administrative responsibilities of the director of a child-care program.
• Articulate the many types of child-care programs available and how you would direct a parent/guardian to choose a type for their child.
• Discuss the principles involved in staff selection and training.
• Summarize sequence of events leading up to opening a day care facility including the daily operations, insurance, payroll, etc.
• Indicate how children with special needs will be cared for given the day-care model.

 

Environmental Impact Assessment   (ENT-403)   3 credits  

Course Description
This course focuses on the manager's role in implementing safety and health programs in the workplace in compliance with the applicable standards of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHAct) of 1970. Special emphasis is placed on developing written programs and conducting employee training as required by OSHAct.

Therapeutic Intervention and Clinical Patient Management   (PSG-105)   4 credits  

Course Description
This is a clinical course designed to provide training in the initiation and management of therapeutic interventions for sleep-related breathing disorders including PAP, oxygen, servo-ventilation and non-invasive positive pressure ventilation. The course focuses on patient treatment and development of the skills required to identify and manage patient safety and medical emergencies in the sleep center, the delivery of patient education, and the management and optimization of therapeutic interventions. The student will, under the supervision of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, participate in polysomnographic recording procedures that include therapeutic intervention procedures.

Through the Portfolio Assessment process, students will demonstrate that they can appropriately address the following outcomes:

• Identify the need for therapeutic intervention of sleep-disordered breathing and other co-morbid respiratory disorders.
• Initiate and manage therapeutic interventions (e.g., PAP therapy, servo-ventilation, bi-level therapy, supplemental oxygen therapy).
• Identify and manage patient safety issues.
• Identify and manage medical emergencies (e.g., cardiac arrhythmias, seizure disorders, psychiatric crises).
• Identify and manage environmental emergencies.
• Provide patient education (e.g., addressing treatment compliance issues with PAP therapy, addressing sleep hygiene issues, educating patient and family members about treatments for other sleep disorders).
