HEA-3071 Pathophysiology for Health Professionals

This course builds on the knowledge gained in anatomy and physiology courses, with a focus on altered physiological processes that result in common diseases across the lifespan. Through case-study analysis, students will connect the physiological basis of common diseases to their manifestations and influencing variables, as well as explore the rationales for research-based interdisciplinary management of these diseases. Students will gain an understanding of the cellular and systemic bases of disease processes to be able to assist patients in better managing their illnesses and maintaining wellness.

Note: Open to all undergraduate University students, this may be substituted for the Chemistry prerequisite needed for the AAS, BS in Health Studies, and BSN program.

Advisory: It is advisable to have knowledge equivalent to BIO-2110: Anatomy and Physiology I and BIO-2120: Anatomy and Physiology II with a grade of C or better to succeed in this course. Students are responsible for making sure that they have the necessary knowledge.
