HUM-2200 Music and American Culture


In Music and American Culture students will study various genres of North American popular music from the 1960s to the present in various historical and cultural contexts, supported by primary and academic sources. Topics covered include the 1960s teenage generation, disco, charity singles and concerts, hip hop, and the role of music in the Black Lives Matter movement. Students will explore how music makes history and becomes culture and will become empowered to explain the "why" behind their musical experiences for themselves and in human history.
