SOS-1500 Self-Assessment and Career Exploration

In this course students will evaluate life and career challenges from an interdisciplinary academic vantage point and build practical skills to make informed choices about life and career planning. Students will discern where in their life they may assert more control after viewing common life- and career-planning challenges from the disciplines of sociology, psychology, and communications. This course utilizes the book Time to Get Real: Turning Uncertainty into an Action Plan for Personal and Professional Success by Alex J. Plinio and Melissa Smith. The authors of Time to Get Real! offer a practical blueprint to allow readers to make intentional choices about their life and career planning in a way that leads to personal satisfaction and fulfillment. In this course, students will be exposed to the "Life and Career Planning Model" designed by Plinio and Smith. By the end of the course, students draft a plan that will guide decision making for their career.
